Call Waiting...

This workshop will address the question of how can one be sure if God is calling one to missions, or not. For some, the call to missions remains elusive, while others may be wondering if they have heard the call right, or wrong.

  • What is a call anyway?
  • Is it an event or a process?
  • How does one ascertain a real call from a 'scam'?

Rev Rodney will propose a more sure and robust way to determine a missions call and dispel some fantasies and romanticism of a mission call.

Speaker - Rev Rodney Hui (OM)

Rev Rodney Hui has been serving with Operation Mobilisation for 50 years. He has lived in 7 countries, sailed on 3 ships - the Logos, Doulos and Logos Hope.

He currently serves as Missions Mentor for OM East Asia.

As the former Area Director of OM East Asia Pacific, he was intrinsically involved in  establishing recruiting offices and ministries in the region. Mobilizing the church into missions and determining the calling of potential missionaries are just part and parcel of this aspect of his ministry.

12.30 p.m.

Workshops Session 1

You can only attend one of the following 2 workshops

A. Digital Missions

According to D.Ray Davis, "the 4th Era of mission introduces a new dynamic, unleashed by the connectivity technology provides".

If it is so, God's people needs to be there. Yet it is not easy to navigate as Digital & technology is a complex world. Just as Moses sent out the 12 spies and to bring back some fruits of the unexplored land, come and hear what Indigitous Singapore had seen and what is possible.

Be exposed to the different aspects of doing the Great Commission in the digital world.

Speaker - Reggie Ng (SYFC/Indigitous)

Reggie is married to Joey, and he has been serving in Singapore Youth For Christ for 12 years, bringing the gospel to the youth in Singapore while guiding them to figure out their purpose in life.

Off work, he volunteers at Indigitous Singapore (a movement to rally Christians into the digital space or using digital means for the gospel) as City lead. Along with a team of fellow volunteers, they run Christian hackathon yearly to rally and expose churches to digital mission.

Reggie also has a passion for people and process development hence at a personal level, he would facilitate conversations among youth and young adult group leaders in church to identify gaps in ministry and how might they manage and move people.

B. Community Development and Transformation

This workshop will highlight the fundamentals of integral mission and transformational development for Christian missions. It will be particularly useful for those who are:

  1. interested in serving in cross-cultural missions in poor and marginalized least-reached communities, and/or
  2. church missions organizers or committee members who wish to gain a deeper understanding of how to facilitate cross-cultural transformational development ministries.

Speaker - Dr Alvin Tey (EAST)

Dr Alvin Tey has been a resident faculty in EAST since 2023.

He concurrently serves in Operation Mobilisation (OM) where he leads the People and Organizational Development team in OM East Asia. Alvin has been serving in missions with OM since 2002 (full-time since 2014), specifically in India, the Mekong region and in the OM East Asia area leadership team.

Alvin worships in Praise Evangelical Free Church.

He is married to Kalene who also serves in OM.

They have a pair of twin daughters, Natalie and Charlotte, and a son, Josiah.

2.00 p.m.

Workshop Session 2

You can only attend one of the following 2 workshops

C. Why plant churches in cities

In a city with many many churches, the question naturally arises:

  • Why should we invest in planting new ones?
  • What benefits could they bring to our existing congregations and the broader community?

Join us for a session that delves into the transformative potential of church planting, revealing its power to invigorate both you as an individual and your church as a community and the fabric of our city.

Speaker - Guna Raman (City to City)

Guna grew up in Malaysia and moved to Singapore after university to teach biology. He planted and pastored Agape Baptist Church in Singapore for 30 years before transitioning into his role as CEO of CTC Asia Pacific in September 2018. Guna counts it a joy and honor to see gospel-centered churches planted and healthy movements and hubs established in the growing strategic and megacities of Asia.

Guna and his wife Christina live in Singapore. They have two married children, four grandchildren and enjoy trekking and hiking together.

Guna enjoys people and food, and he loves to bring the two together.

D. The Biblical basis for the arts in mission

Participants will learn about The Biblical basis for the arts in missions.

  • And how should Christians integrate arts into cross-cultural ministry –
  • the do’s and don’ts if a mission team wants to do this during a mission trip.

Ling Zi will also share about the difference between the Christian healing arts ministry and secular art therapy.

Participants would also get to watch a Class Demo of a Scripture watercolour artwork.

Speaker - Ling Zi (OMF)

Ling Zi serves with OMF as a Serve Asia Coordinator. She advocates for using art in the mission field and is passionate about sharing her love for art with others.

Ling Zi is a self-taught artist. She picked up watercolour, embroidery, and calligraphy in 2015 and has evolved in her art-making.

She enjoys going outdoors to be in nature, painting what she sees and journaling stories along the way. Creating is her passion and joy. She delights in journeying with people, helping them to find their creative expression and healing through art.

She hopes that her art will bring God's hope and joy to hearts
